Stephanie and Gavin's Cosy Winter Wedding at the Elvetham

I love the cosy intimacy of winter weddings, log fires, rich colour palettes and being surrounded by the warmth of family and friends. Gavin and Stephanie were joined by family and friends from both sides of the Atlantic at the beautifully historic Elvetham - a perfect venue for a cosy winter wedding. Following on from a romantic proposal in Venice, it is no surprise that Gavin and Stephanie returned to Italy for an idyllic honeymoon in Rome.
The stunning images of their wedding were expertly captured by Brett Harkness photography, a valued member of The Wedding Vine’s exclusive premier portfolio.
The Wedding Fashion
Since my Mom is a designer, the wedding dress was designed and created by both myself and my Mom – Mary Jo Kruse from Sisters N’ Stitches Inc. It kept evolving until it became “the dress” and the grand design also included a beautiful full-length winter coat to go over the entire dress! (My mom also gets the credit for making the stunning bridesmaid and adorable flower girl dresses!)
Work was completed on both sides of the Atlantic and we also worked with Elaine Kennedy from Tantrums & Tiaras too, who helped to complete the finishing touches since my mum didn’t have the luxury of being in her own shop!
I wore Jimmy Choos with a massive stiletto heel, yet somehow I still managed to be shorter than the groom (who looked dashing in a suit from Moss Bros and tie by Duchamp!) My hairpiece (for the ceremony), earrings and bracelet were created by Scott Johnston from Tantrums & Tiaras. The headpiece I wore for the reception was created by Helena Talbot of HT Headwear
Both of the wedding bands were designed and created by Kofi Asante of Asanti Designs.
The Ceremony and Reception
Our ceremony and reception were held at The Elvetham in Hartley Wintney, Hampshire. The Elvetham appealed to us both as it is a beautiful, historical mansion with an impressive history but it somehow still maintains a quaint and cozy feel. They also have fireplaces in every room, which we considered to be a “must have” for a winter wedding venue!
We had a traditional wedding and used fairly neutral colours such as black, white, silver & gold. Since it was so close to Christmas, there were Christmas trees with red & gold decorations throughout the venue. We made our own invitations using materials bought from Monika Day at ‘PaperPlain & WeddingWrites.’ They were beautiful “Champagnium Plume” pocket-fold wallets with matted invitations and inserts in black, white, silver & gold.
Our Florist Joanne Biddle created the beautiful bouquets, boutonnières and amazingly elegant centerpieces. my bouquet was an all-white mix of Akito & Avalanche Rose’s, Singapore Orchids, Calla Lillies, Lisianthus’, Viburnum Opulus’, and French Ruscus’. The bridesmaids bouquets were also all-white but were smaller with less variety.
Joanna Haines from Cake Magic made our delicious cake and created our amazing flowers out of sugar! The cake layers alternated between dark chocolate and lemon drizzle. For wedding favours we gave out delicious mince pies handmade by the grooms Mum, Patricia Meadows!
Alexis Ashford, and the band Cheesecake did an absolutely wonderful job performing at our reception - at one point, the groom was even on stage too!
Our best idea was simply having a winter wedding – everything else just fell into place from there!
After the festivities were over and the guests had gone home, we had a relaxing stay in London, before taking a romantic honeymoon in Rome.
Our wedding day was incredible, I can honestly say that the entire day turned out better than we could ever have dreamed! By far the best thing was actually getting married to one another - everything else was amazing but nothing quite compared to the moment when we became husband and wife!
The Wedding Photography
Brett & Kristie Harkness of Brett Harkness Photography did both our pre-wedding and wedding photos. The only problem has been trying to narrow down the number of pictures to use since we love them all!!
